Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal data Switchyard collects, why, and how you can control it. It covers both customers who use Switchyard’s console and visitors who land on a redirect. [Legal entity name] operates Switchyard and controls the data described here.

Information we collect from customers

When you sign up, our sign-in provider, Clerk, collects your name and email address. Inside Switchyard, we store the workspaces you create, their names, the members and roles inside them, any invitations you send (including invitee email addresses), and the redirects, tags, and notes you add.

Information we collect about visitors

When a redirect has tracking turned on, we record, for each visit: the time, the hostname and path requested, the destination, the visitor’s country (from a header our hosting provider’s edge network supplies), the referrer’s host and URL without its query string, whether the visitor looks like a bot, whether the request used HTTP or HTTPS, and a device class (desktop, mobile, tablet, or unknown) read from the browser’s user agent string. We do not store IP addresses or full user agent strings. You can turn tracking off for any redirect, and we then record nothing about its visits.

Why we collect it

We use this data to run Switchyard: to authenticate you, to enforce workspace membership and roles, to serve your redirects, to show you analytics, and to detect and respond to abuse.

Domain verification

Before we serve redirects for a hostname, we look up its public DNS records and may ask you to add a DNS TXT record to prove you control it. We only serve a hostname once that proof is in place.

Subprocessors

We use these companies to run Switchyard, and each can access the data it needs to provide its service to us:

• Clerk: authentication and account sign-in.
• Convex: our database and backend.
• Vercel: hosting, and the network that serves your redirects.
• Cloudflare: public DNS lookups, over DNS-over-HTTPS, for the hostnames you add.

Retention

We keep account and workspace data while your workspace exists. We keep visit analytics for a redirect while that redirect and its workspace exist. Deleting a redirect deletes its analytics; deleting a workspace deletes everything inside it.

Cookies

Signing in to the Switchyard console sets a cookie from our sign-in provider so you stay signed in. A redirect itself sets no cookies; visiting one works like following any other link.

Your rights

You can view, edit, and delete most of your data directly in the console. To request a copy of your data, or its deletion, email william@seriantech.org. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first.

Children

Switchyard is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16.

Changes

We may update this policy as Switchyard changes. We will post the updated policy here and update the date at the top.
